We’re looking forward to heading down to Long Beach next week. Southern California has a long history with the aerospace industry. With its ideal climate, open land, and proximity to top universities, the area has been a major player in the aerospace industry since the early 20th century.
In the 1920s, more than 25 airframe and aircraft engine makers set up shop in the area, and companies like Carson-based Ducommun Inc. supplied aluminum to early aircraft like Charles Lindbergh’s Spirit of St. Louis. Over the course of World War II, Southern California aircraft-manufacturing plants employed two million people and built 300,000 planes, according to the book “Blue Sky Metropolis: The Aerospace Century in Southern California.” (see this LA Times story for more).
Fast-forward to today, and it’s interesting (and thrilling!) to note that SpaceX is planning to center its manufacturing in the Long Beach area.
So, it seems fitting that Long Beach will once again host a gathering of engineers who are pioneering the next wave of aerospace manufacturing, which has already transitioned to a highly distributed model and is enthusiastically embracing digital manufacturing.
This year, Identify3D will be at AeroDef in several capacities, all with a focus on helping aerospace companies confidently implement a flow of digital manufacturing information from engineering studio to manufacturing. Here’s where we’ll be:
- Panel discussion: April 30, 9–10 am, SME Zone Booth 1519. Identify3D co-founder/CSO Stephan Thomas is among a group of experts who will discuss how cyberattacks are manifesting themselves, and the various successful strategies that aerospace and defense manufacturers are deploying to thwart these attacks.
- Conference session: April 30, 11–11:25 am, Room 202C. Identify3D co-founder/CEO Joe Inkenbrandt will present a session that will explore how advances in blockchain technology can be used to control and track digital engineering data flow throughout the digital (and physical) supply chain.
- Schedule a meeting with Identify3D. We’ll be previewing our upcoming product release, which gives engineering and manufacturing teams the ability to encrypt digital assets in the cloud — enhancing portability and streamlining workflow.
We’d love to meet you at AeroDef!
